Year 6 Home Learning

We know that this is a very uncertain and difficult time for many of us. We have attached a document which is great to use with children who are feeling anxious or worried about the Coronavirus. It is also a great tool to start conversations with your child about Coronavirus in a very child-friendly way!

Dave the Dog - Coronavirus Story

If parents or carers have any questions about the work set, please use the email address to contact your children's class teachers.

Class13@holytrinity.bwmat.org

Class14@holytrinity.bwmat.org

Notices:

LEAVERS' BOOK REMINDER: Please send an email to Miss Claridge  with 2 photos of your child (one of them when they began school - or of that age (5 year old), and one of them during year 6).  Also, please state, within the email, how your child would like their name to be, for example: Amelia or Millie.  Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: There was an error with Miss Claridge's email address.  It is lclaridge@Holytrinity.bwmat.org

POLITE REQUEST: Does anybody have any baby monitors that you are not using? If so, are you willing to donate them to YDH for use in their Emergency Department?  If you are able to help, please contact Caroline Boulind (Tilly's mum), send an email to your

class teacher or Miss Claridge and we can forward on the message.  Thank you.

Toilet Roll Video: Miss Claridge has begun a fun video where we will be passing a toilet roll through the shot of a video. All you need to do is catch a toilet roll from the left and then throw it to your right.  Below is a snippet of a video that includes Megan and Thomas which will show you exactly what I mean.  If you wish to be a part of it, record your short clip and send it to Miss Claridge: lclaridge@holytrinity.bwmat.org

A message from Mr Barker and Mrs Camp:

Coming to the end of our first week in lockdown,

doing your school work in PJs and dressing gowns.

It's not what we all had in mind-

that going to the park could get you fined!

But it's teaching us to make the best,

and save the world by having a rest...

That is until you switch on Jo Wicks

and find yourself injured from those high kicks!

It is a strange time that we find ourselves in,

but beating this virus, we must win!

SATs being cancelled takes off some pressure,

so our lessons are there to give you a little re-fresher.

If you find something tough,

just try some other stuff.

And send me a note -

others may be in the same boat;

I will send help,

if you give me a lttle yelp.

At the end of the day,

what more can I say:

stay safe, stay home, be kind,

keep friends and relatives in mind,

for I'm sure there are many you miss,

but before too long, we will be through this!

See you all soon!

My Lighthouse as you have never seen it before! Join in and enjoy :)

Reading

Daily reading is still an important task.  We would expect the children to read at school (silently) for a minimum of 15 minutes; however, they are reading all of the time in every lesson.  Therefore it is important to keep up with this vital skill.  Attached are some ideas to help with this task.

Read, Read, Repeat!

Grammar

Task 1

Your first task is to complete the word task in the link below.  You need to find out about two of the word within the list and complete some tasks around it.  Look at the example at the end to give you an idea of what is needed.

Word_Task.pdf

Task 2

Read the revision information about pronouns in the link below.  At the end there are three tasks to do.  Please copy and complete them in your book.

Pronouns_Task.pdf

Types_of_Nouns_Support_Sheet.pdf

Task 3

If you have time left, please see the grammar sheet that you complete in your grammar lessons.  If you have a printer, you are more than welcome to print it out and highlight the answers; if you don't, please just write the answers that you find, into your book.

Review_Sheet_Phase_1_and_2.pdf

For one of the A, B, C, please label each word to show which word class it is in (we do this most weeks).

White Rose Maths is question based and is more for revision and consolidation.

This week there will be two foci - 1. Ratio and 2. Fractions.

Reading

Today we would like the children to focus on some comprehension questions.  Below is a link to the site that is needed. (1 hour maximum for this task)

https://oaqaeuw.exampro.net/

Answers will be posted next week.

Writing

Over the last few days, you have been practising some sentence types to help improve your story writing.

Your task today is to apply these to your story of the Three Little Pigs.

Take the original story, or the one that you did on Monday and re-write it using some of the examples that you wrote on Tuesday and Wednesday.

You can write this in your book or type it up - either way, we would love to see the final product!

At 11am https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/ and click on Elevenses. This should (hopefully) send you to ....

https://soundcloud.com/harpercollinspublishers/the-worlds-worst-children-by/s-dqoZWNyMFFq for the story.

Writing

Today, for writing, we would like you to practice some writing skills to continue improving the stories that you have started.  Click on the link below for all of the details you will need.

This week we will be continuing with our revision of topics which we would have been doing in school.  We will be using a range of resources: for this week it will be White Rose Maths and Gareth Metcalfe Maths.

Read, Read, Repeat!

Over the next coming weeks we are going to do some work based around the Three Little Pigs; therefore we need you to understand the story as best you can to help (which should be easy - we bet you've known it since you were little!)

Today you will need to...

1. Watch the Three Little Pigs video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLR2pLUsl-Y

2. Read and understand the Three Little Pigs story

The_Three_Little_Pigs_Story

3. Draw a story map of the Three Little Pigs and re-tell it to yourself, a member of your family, a pet etc (like we did with the Bowerman's Nose).

4. Try and re-write the story of the Three Little Pigs using your story map.

Topic/Other Subject

Our new topic is The Maya Civilisation.  Over the next two weeks (when it is Topic) the children will be set tasks to research the ancient civilisation.  The aim is by the end of the topic the children will create a factfile/non-fiction booklet about the Maya.

Today we would like the children to find out some initial facts about them.
