Attached below is a document containing Easter tasks produced by the Year 4 teachers that you may wish to do with your family. These activities are opitional, so complete as many or as little as you like.
Somerset Council have produced a 'virtual activities calendar for Easter 2020' which includes a range of activities from keeping active to craft ideas and even virtual zoo visits!
Finally, The British Red Cross have produced an activity called the 'Power of Kindness Calendar' which is also attached below.

This week, we are looking at adding the prefix auto- (meaning 'self' or 'own') as well as words from the Year 3/4 spelling list. Please practise your spellings each day and make sure you understand what they mean by using a dictionary to find the definition. Can you put these words into a sentence of your own?

Grammar- Voyage Writing
Firstly, there is a grammar task to get you warmed up for your fabulous writing! Please complete the grammar tenses mat. Look at the picture in the middle and write a sentence in your home learning book for each of the tenses in the boxes around the outside. Your voyage writing learning review is to write a short paragraph in the correct tense all about the picture: this could include a description or a short story. Please choose your challenge accordingly!

Your first task is to label the key parts of the digestive system inside the human body. Your second task is to write a creative story following a piece of food's journey through the digestive system! This week in Guided Reading we are reading the next chapter of 'Viking at School' by Jeremy Strong! Please complete the questions in your home learning books. Remember to answer in full sentences and for greater depth to add quotations from the text and justify your answers! After you have completed the questions, look through the answers- see if you can improve your answers!
This week in RE we are finishing off our Salvation and Easter Unit. Look through the power point and recap what we have learned about Holy Week and Easter so far. Have a go at the mini quiz!
Continuing our studies on Holy Week, we are looking at the themes of joy, sadness and hope. Think and reflect on how the disciples, Jesus and Christians today have felt at different events throughout Holy week. Can you sort each of the pictures into the three emotions?
For your learning review, please separate your page into three sections: sadness, joy and happiness. Draw and write words to describe everyday things that make you feel these emotions.

Our writing today has an Easter theme. We would like children to watch the attached video clip and use it to inspire them to write a diary entry. Children need to write their diary entry as if they are the chick that is cracking out of the egg. Remember to use all of the features of a diary entry mentioned on your checklist helpsheet.

Today children need to revisit the video clip they watched for yesterday's lesson. I have attached the link again! This time, we are going to use this video to inspire us to write a setting description of a Spring scene, using our senses to aid this description. Look at the power point. This is how some countries celebrate Easter! Your task today is to research how Easter is celebrated in other countries and to produce a poster in your home learning books about the way Easter is celebrated in a country of your choice. You may want to use an idea from the power point or a country of your own choice!

Children will be writing poetry based on an imagined experience (being an astronaut entering space). Please watch the video link below to help with this. When children write their poem, they can choose which style of poetry they would like to use. It can be a rhyming couplets poem, an alternate line rhyme poem, a Haiku (we'd like 3 seperate ones if you choose this style) or a Kennings. Please focus on including the thoughts, moods and feelings an astronaut might be feeling by choosing words and phrases carefully. When you have finished writing your poem, read it aloud to your family and think about intonation, tone and volume.
We would like children to research Viking Gods and Godesses and then create a fact-file about them please. Class 9...Can you remember our Class Worship song? Can you remember the names of any Gods or Goddesses? I attach a PowerPoint, but we encourage children to do some independent research too. Today in Voyage writing we are continuing to look at pronouns to aid cohesion. We use pronouns instead of repeating names in text to improve our writing. Today's challenge is to write a letter in the character of Oolaf Oolafson from our story by using these pronouns. Please see the review slip and pronoun charts to help!

Children will be continuing work on poetry and rhyming schemes. Children will be provided with a given image and need to produce a poem about that using an ABBA rhyme scheme. This means that the first and last line of each verse should rhyme and the second and third verse should rhyme.

In today's session we are looking at a range of balances and making them flow into each other with a combination of different rolls. If your child would like to practise these at home, that would be fantastic.
Children will be given the following image of an Anglo Saxon helmet divided into four equal sections. They will then be asked to replicate the image using four different mediums e.g the top left corner in pencil, the top right corner in handwriting pen, the bottom left in charcoal and the bottom right in oil pastels. If you don't have these resources at home, please feel free to use any other mediums you have readily available. Thank you.
