This lesson is going to be about Superman's Dilemma. Use the picture on the website to help finish the story below:

Despite being an incredibly brave, strong, life–saving phenomenon, even Superman had problems. He still loved his job; he still loved saving lives. Today he had already prevented many catastrophes, flying after a jumbo jet full of passengers that had been plummeting towards the earth at tremendous speed. Just before lunch, Superman had swooped in front of a moving truck to save a lost kitten. However, now…Superman needed help. He picked up his phone and began to dial…

Can you continue the story about Superman’s dilemma? What could his problem be? Who might he be calling for help?

b. I can recognise if I need to use a or an (an apple, a cat).

c. I group my ideas into simple paragraphs/sections using headings and sub headings where appropriate.

d. I can use the present perfect form of verbs instead of the simple past. (He has always lived in Yeovil. They have been going to school for 5 years).

Topic

Last week, we set up 3 different experiments to see if cress can grow in different situations.

The three experiment questions were:

-          What happens if a plant has no water?

-          Can a plant grow in the dark?

-          If a plant has no heat, will it still grow?

Attached are the photos of the cress after the 3 experiments.

Task 1 - Write a paragraph about the observation of the cress. What does the cress look like? What has surprised you?

Attached is a results table of the height of the cress. Task 2 - Create a bar chart of the results. An example layout of the bar chart is attached if you would like to use it.

Why did the cress in the dark grow the tallest?

The cress seeds begin to grow significantly after a day or two and end up being more than 3 times as high. In the dark, the plants have no light to use in photosynthesis. They will therefore put all their energy into growing as high as possible to increase the chances that they may still encounter a ray of sunlight.

Task 3 - Write a conclusion paragraph explaining why it happened.

Can you write a diary entry for one of these children, describing their journey to school?

6AM: I left the house on my own, wrapped in my warmest coat to make the long trip. I met up with the other children from my village, and we huddled together beneath the mountain to keep warm, waiting for the last couple of stragglers to arrive. As soon as we were all together, two of the dads puts their sledges and emergency packs on their backs, and we set off for school...

What will you see on your journey?

What will you be able to smell or touch?

Remember to use your senses and apply lots of adjectives to describe and specify.
